How do I get a refund for a delay?

Have you experienced a delay with an NS train? Then you can submit a claim to get your travel costs refunded. This can be done from a delay of half an hour, and on the high-speed line (Intercity Direct or the Intercity The Hague-Eindhoven via Breda) even from a quarter of an hour. All information about refunds for delays is collected on this page.

Check if you can get a refund.

Good to know: you will not get a refund if …

... the compensation is less than €2.30.
... a longer travel time was announced in advance.
... a carrier other than NS caused the delay.
... you did not have a valid travel ticket.
... you submit a claim 3 months or more after the travel date.
... there was a ‘special case of force majeure’, such as a nationwide power outage.

How much money will you get back?

The full fare, part of it, or a fixed amount: how much money you get back depends on your situation. Such as which travel ticket you used and how long your delay was.

For delays of more than an hour, you often get the cost of your entire journey refunded, and for shorter delays, half of it.

How do you claim a refund after a delay?

How you should claim a refund for your delay depends. What kind of train ticket did you have? Did you travel on the high-speed line, within the Netherlands or abroad? One this page you can find an overview of all possibilities.

Note: you can only submit your claim 24 hours AFTER your journey.
