As of April 22, we use TomTom for route calculations instead of Here Maps.
TomTom is the trusted service behind the ANWB Route Planner and offers better performance for bike routes and more consistent results for car routes.
All existing routes will be automatically recalculated using TomTom within 90 days. In most cases, the distance will remain the same. In some cases, distances may differ slightly to better reflect the actual route traveled.
The distance shown in your NS Go trip registration is based on a route calculation using the TomTom Route Planner. The following principles apply:
-
Direction affects distance: The outbound and return trips may differ in kilometers. TomTom calculates the fastest route per direction, taking into account one-way streets, roundabouts, and on/off-ramps.
-
Fastest route, not the shortest: Distances are based on the fastest route, which may not be the shortest.
-
No live traffic data: Toll roads, traffic jams, or temporary closures are not included in the calculation. Actual road conditions may differ from the calculated distance.
-
Vehicle type matters: Routes are tailored for cars, bikes/scooters, and pedestrians.
-
Location search: Starting and destination points are determined using the NS and TomTom search functionality for accurate location matching.
-
No GPS tracking: To protect your privacy, we don’t use GPS tracking. Only the entered start and end points are stored.
